Welcome to Rural Magpie, a vintage and retro treasure trove.

I'm Karen and I live, with my husband James, in a picturesque village in North Essex, close to the beautiful city of Cambridge and the historic market town of Saffron Walden.

I've always been passionate about vintage and decorative items.  Years ago you would find me searching out and selling such things at local boot sales.

Since the late 1990's I had worked in London for Accountancy firms and when I relocated to North Essex my short commute to London became a long and expensive one.  I decided to find a local job and then I found myself being made redundant from it.  Oh, I really didn't want to work back in London.

With the help and support of my husband, James, I took the brave step of starting my own business and launched my own online shop Rural Magpie, therefore I could sell what I love, vintage homewares.  That was seven years ago and I have not looked back since.

Rural Magpie offers an eclectic mix of fine quality one-off pieces of preloved, modern and vintage finds from home wares, ceramics and glassware to hand-painted / restored furniture as well as beautiful pieces of costume jewellery. All items have been chosen with great care and consideration and the furniture pieces have been lovingly restored and bought back to life.

I offer a furniture hand-painting service, please do get in touch if you are interested in this service.

I love the personal touch and attend as many local vintage fairs as possible in order to meet customers.

In addition, you can hire extra special pieces from Rural Magpie for that special occasion such as weddings, parties and corporate events.
