  • July - the second month of summer

I am really enjoying the summer so far and now we are into July where the summer school holidays will soon be upon us and many of you will be jetting away for a well earned break.

Did you know that July was named by the Roman Senate in honour of the Roman General, Julius Caesar, July being the month of his birth and did you know that rubies are the birthstone for July.  Rubies represents love, wealth and wisdom.

I just love jewels and I am really excited as I am planning a jewellery fair at Great Chesterford near Saffron Walden Essex on 30 September 2017.

A new shopping event that will showcase high quality antique and vintage jewellery, costume jewellery, beads and pearls, silver, designer and handcrafted jewellery.

A must go to event for Jewellery lovers.

If you would like to be involved and have beautiful jewellery to sell and wish to have a stall, them please get in touch and email me

  • The Orwell Antique & Vintage Fair

We are in May and the months are flying by.  We held our first fair last weekend on the 14 May 2017 in the beautiful village of Orwell Cambridgeshire, just down the road from Wimpole Hall.

It was a great success, the hall was fully booked with Traders at least 20, all selling beautiful wares of Antiques and Vintage. The fair was well supported and we even managed to get an editorial in the Royston Crow newspaper.

I'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone that came along and supported the event.  And here's to looking forward to the next one in October.

  • HAPPY EASTER

    I do love April.

It is lovely to see that Spring has arrived.  The beautiful yellow daffodils definitely make me feel cheery and put a smile on my face, as does the birds chirping away and the blossom on the trees.

I love that Easter is here along with the Easter Bunny and Easter Eggs.  Did you know that Germany introduced us to the Easter Bunny and Easter egg hunts?  And we can thank the Victorians for our traditional Easter cards, Easter fairs and chocolate Easter eggs.

I'd like to wish you all a lovely Easter holiday, enjoy your chocolate Easter eggs.  However, if you do not want to put on any extra calories this Easter Holiday and are looking for alternative Easter gifts, I hope you can find something special here in our online store.

    Enjoy the Easter holiday.

  • Hello March

Well February has flown by.  Readers I do hope you were wined and dined in true romantic style.

Spring seems to have arrived, the daffodils are out and the frogs are singing.

Our plans to host a Vintage & Antique Fair in May (Sunday 14th) at Orwell Cambridge are well underway.  We have a fantastic caterer who will be providing hot and cold sandwiches along with tea and cake.  Good news, we are almost fully booked, please do get in touch as soon as possible if you require a stall.

Lots of new vintage stock now in, please do have a browse around the website.

  • Welcome to February, the month of love.

And the days are definitely getting longer.

Not only have we been busy at home, we have been decorating our junk room which has been transformed back to our third bedroom and the antique Belgium world map finally gets up on the wall. We have also been busy here at Rural Magpie, we attended our first fair of the year earlier this month, hosted by The Curiosity Fair who did rather well in promoting the event as over 560 people attended.

We have also been out and about, visiting Ipswich. We particularly liked Lady Norfolk and Lord Rust, such a lovely vintage shop. We have also been to Marlow and Henley such pretty little towns on the Thames.

Our exciting news is that we have agreed to host the Orwell Antique and Vintage Fair in Hertfordshire on Sunday 14 May 2017. The fair pops up twice a year and has been going, we believe, for over 30 years.

We are currently taking bookings from Traders and look forward to hearing from you should you be interested in having a stall.

    Happy Valentines
